When to use

This is a polite request to borrow someone's phone. It should be used sparingly and only when absolutely necessary.

Similar to asking for Wi-Fi, this uses the '可以...吗' (kě yǐ...ma) structure for polite requests. The phrase is Subject + Modal Verb + Verb + Object + Particle.

• 可以 (kě yǐ): can, may
• 用 (yòng): to use
• 你 的 (nǐ de): your
• 电话 (diàn huà): phone
• 吗 (ma): question particle

Watch Out

The word '电话' (diàn huà) generally refers to a telephone. If you specifically want to borrow their mobile phone, you can say '手机' (shǒu jī) instead.
