Use this formal MSA phrase when requesting police intervention from a male bystander or official. It is universally understood across Arabic-speaking regions.

Gender Agreement

Gender agreement mandates pairing the masculine imperative verb with the masculine address. If speaking to a woman, you must change these to "اتصلي" (ittasili) and "من فضلكِ" (min fadlik).

How it works

The verb connects to its object using the preposition "بـ" (bi-), which attaches directly to the following word.

• اتصل: Masculine imperative verb meaning 'contact' or 'call'.
• بـ: Preposition linking the verb to the noun.
• الشرطة: The police. Notice the sun letter 'sh' assimilates the 'l' sound of the definite article.
• من فضلك: Please (literally 'from your grace'), addressed to a male.
